Hello From Haiti
Sorry it is so long since I have written. God has brought me to Haiti to bring His light and relief to the people suffering from the earthquake. God again has shown up and shown Himself faithful. He has brought me to doing things I have never done before. Since I have been here I have learned how to not only drive a Water truck, but full it and unload it. I have worked on water pumps, worked on and ran a generator. For this, He has given me a new appreciation for showers and plumbing in general. I have been cooking and maintaining laundry for almost 30 people. I have also been cutting and nailing boards, hauling concrete blocks, shifting and mixing cement, and working the eye center in some medical clinics. So in other words it has been very busy around here! It has been wonderful seeing the hand of God moving for these people. I have a ton of stories I could share, but there are beans that need to be cooked, so I’ll share a couple from last week. I had the pleasure serving in the eye clinics on two separate medical missions clinics here in Haiti. In the first clinic a beautiful 96 year old Haitian woman was lead to the seat to have her eyes checked. Since she was not able to see to get to her seat herself I was sure that it would have to be a miracle for us to help her in anyway see again. We checked her eyes, and the very first set of glasses I put on her darling face made her light up like a Christmas tree. She had never had glasses, and had not seen for a while. To say I was bubbling over with joy is an understatement. In the second clinic, there was a young woman in her twenties who came in to the clinic to have her eyes checked for a pair of glasses. I asked her how she viewed her relationship with Christ. She told me she was a christian, and that she had a good relationship with Jesus. The interpreter shook his head telling me that he knew her, and that the young lady did not have a close relationship with Jesus. I proceeded to ask her if I could share with her. She said yes. I told her that I felt God had laid it heavy on my heart to share with her about Jesus and the importance of having a relationship with him. She then broke down and told me that her husband had went to the United States leaving her with two children. She then told me she was now in a relationship with another man, and felt she could not get out of it because she was dependent on him for money to support herself and her two children. She was not even sure where she would get the money to make her rent. I asked if I could pray with her, and she told me yes. So, we went before the father together, and asked him to help her in making her rent, and restoring her relationship with her husband. Another young girl came in for glasses and I again asked her how she viewed her relationship with Jesus. She told me she was not a christian, and that she was scared her parents would kick her out of the house if she became a christian. Her parents are voodoo worshipers, and she was scared that they would use voodoo on her if she became a christian. I told her that Jesus was more powerful then voodoo, and that the choice to have a relationship with Jesus was hers not her parents. She started to tear up and said she wanted to become a christian. I told her that all she had to do was believe on Jesus as the son of God, and repent. We bowed our heads, and she then ask Jesus to be her Lord and Savior in Creole. If this is not proof that Jesus is still giving sight to the blind I don't know what is. At the end of the week with those volunteers we showed a movie to the community were we had done the clinic. The movie was shown right beside a voodoo priest home. When we showed up I was surrounded by children hugging on me and loving on me it was such a wonderful feeling. We have learned parts of a Creole worship song which translated means Move the Rock. I started singing it, and the children joined in. After singing that song they started singing another song in Creole which has the words we are children of god and we will not worship voodoo gods. This all took place right beside the priest home. Pretty soon after we get the movie started the priest comes out and starts watching it with us. He even offered batteries to help run the generator. It is great to be such a part of what God is doing for the people of Haiti. Prayer Request:Haiti is a dark country and there are security concerns about people going out by themselves. That makes ministry difficult to do, and trying to connect with the people difficult as well. So, my first request would be for open doors to ministry. Second unity between the whole team. God has blessed us with a great team, but we could always be closer. Third, a since of purpose and usefulness for all the members of my team. Fourth, there is a lot of discrimination between the Dominican Republican side and the Haiti side. Please pray for unity of these two people. For me personally, the work here is physically hard so I would love prayer for the physical strength to do what I need to do, I want to grow closer to God, be a clear representation of Him, be used by Him completely for His work here and anywhere He wants to send me, have strong healthy relationships with my team, open ears and willing heart to what direction God wants to take after my time here is over, (I long for that direction to be clear). Thank you so much!
